Carla receives mayor's proclamation in honor of anniversary of the Red Hat Society

April 25, 2013 was the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Red Hat Society. At Carla's instigation, Susie Galea, mayor of Alamogordo, New Mexico, declared that day to be Red Hat Society Day.

Here we see Mayor Galea presenting the official copy of the proclamation to Carla while several members of her Red Hat Society chapter watched. The photo appeared in the Alamogordo Daily News.

Also at Carla's instigation, Susana Martinez, governor of New Mexico, declared that day to be New Mexico Red Hat Society Day.

 

Carla first runner up for Ms. Senior Parker County, also wins evening wear competition

At the Ms. Senior Parker County Pageant in Weatherford, Texas on May 14, 2011, Carla was named first runner up for the title of Ms. Senior Parker County. She also won the evening wear competition.

As her talent presentation, Carla performed the Kiowa Butterfly Dance:

Carla exhibits books at literature event (Weatherford Democrat, May 1, 2011)

Judy Sheridan, staff reporter for the Weatherford Democrat, reported on the Ninth Annual Books 'n Authors 'n All That Jazz literature event conducted by Weatherford College, Weatherford, Texas (April 30, 2011). The event revolves around a day-long book fair, where local authors exhibit their books, and also features a series of seminars and workshops on many aspects of writing. This year Carla exhibited both of her published books.

Incidentally, Carla received an Editors' Award in Creative Non-Fiction writing in the Canis Latran Writing Contest, a component of the event. You can read about it here.
 

Carla to be contestant in 2011 Ms. Senior Parker County Pageant  (Weatherford Democrat, May 1, 2011)

The Weatherford Democrat reported that the Committee for the Ms. Senior Parker County Pageant has announced the contestants for the 2011 pageant. Carla is among them.

The event will be held at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 14 in the theater of the Alkek Fine Arts Center at Weatherford College, Weatherford, Texas.

Contestants will be judged on an appearance in evening wear, on a talent presentation, and on a their answer to an interview question.

Carla has not yet announced what her talent presentation will be, but your editor here knows, and it will be superb!

This will be the 10th edition of the pageant.

Ms. Senior Parker County Pageant

 

Carla cuts the ceremonial cake at the blessing of the new Freedom House facility in Weatherford  (Weatherford Democrat, September 21, 2010)

The coverage in the Democrat of the blessing of the new facility for Freedom House, a Weatherford, Texas  agency providing shelter, counseling, and other support to victims of sexual and domestic violence, on November 14, 2010, features a photo of Carla cutting the ceremonial cake.

Carla is a volunteer with the agency, and was a hostess at the blessing event.

Weatherford author featured at Native American literacy event  (Weatherford Democrat, September 21, 2010)

The Democrat carried an illustrated story about the Native American Heritage Month Celebrates Literacy event at the Barnes & Noble Lincoln Park Store in Dallas on November 17, 2010, at which Carla was the featured author.

Author interviewed on local radio station

On September 18, 2010, Carla was the guest author on "Books and Authors", a weekly program on KYQX-FM (89.5), Weatherford, Texas, hosted by Linda Bagwell, Director of Communications and Public Relations of Weatherford College.
